The SewershedIn urban areas, water movement is complicated by a network of sewers and drains collectively termed the sewershed. Water that used to run through streams, rivers and underground flow is instead directed into pipes. Water that falls onto roofs usually drains into rain gutters and flows into downspouts, which are often connected directly to storm sewers. Water that falls onto driveways and streets flows into storm drains at the side of the road, which are also connected to storm sewers. Water that infiltrates the soil is sometimes collected in weeping tiles, which are again often connected directly to the storm sewer. ![]() More: Types of Sewers, Toronto's Sewer System, Leaking Pipes, Combined Sewer Overflows
