Leaking Pipes

Approximately 10% of underground pipes leak. This means that in areas serviced with sewers, the groudwater is often contaminated with untreated sewage where pipes are cracked. Groundwater can also leak into the sewer at these points, with the sewer then acting like a tile drain to lower the groundwater table to the depth of the sewer.
