Costs of Stormwater

The cost of stormwater in the city can be enormous.  Wastewater treatment, stormwater retention and sewer infrastructure are major parts of the city's budget.  Road washouts and wet basements add another toll.  However, the economic cost is just one part of the equation.  Poisoned waterbodies can kill aquatic animals, contaminate drinking water and act as reservoirs for disease.  Recreational opportunities are also affected; beach closures from sewer overflows have become a regular event in our city.
