Stop Runoff

Rain that falls on impermeable, or hard, surfaces gathers contaminants and pollutants and flows quickly into storm sewers where it goes, untreated, into rivers and lakes. In major storm events, this runoff overwhelms the storm sewers contributing to basement flooding and combined sewer overflows.

Deal with stormwater where it falls, and stop the rain that lands on your property from becoming fast, hot and dirty runoff. Restore the natural water cycle on your property by using natural stormwater management principles of storage and infiltration (soaking into the ground).

  1. Stop the rain from going straight to the sewer by Disconnecting your Downspout.
  2. Store the water for later use in a Rain barrel or rain harvesting system (see Use Less Water and Rain Harvesting).
  3. Retain the rainwater and allow it to infiltrate (soak into the ground) on site using Landscape Solutions such as infiltration trenches, underground soakaway pits or vegetated swales.
